After completing EITM at Duke, I joined the World Bank as a short term consultant in the late Summer of 2008. Having returned to the UK afterwards, I spent one year finishing my PhD at the University of Essex. In the meantime, I relocated back to the Netherlands (where my then-girlfriend, now wife lived) and started as an Assistant Professor at the University of Amsterdam. I stayed in Amsterdam for just over two years, from 2009 to 2011, teaching both BA and MA courses in international relations and research methods as well as working on various research projects. Then I decided to pursue a career in public policy and joined the European Central Bank (located in Frankfurt, Germany) as part of their Graduate Program. Towards the end of this program I found an interesting position at the Dutch central bank (DNB) in its supervisory strategy department, where I had the opportunity to work on upcoming themes such as FinTech. In 2017, I was promoted to a managerial position at DNB’s on-site banking supervision division, from which I have been seconded back to the ECB since May 2020.
