My interests are primarily in the field of comparative political institutions. My research deals with how institutions, parties, elections, and their interactions shape bargaining strategies in systems of separation of power. My work has been published by Cambridge and Johns Hopkins University Presses and in the American Political Science Review, the Journal of Politics, Political Geography, and Electoral Studies, among others.
I received a Ph.D. at the University of California, San Diego in 2001. I was visiting professor at IBEI in Barcelona throughout 2007 and visiting scholar at Washington University in St. Louis in 2014-15.
