Aila M. Matanock is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research addresses the ways in which international actors engage in fragile states and is funded by sources including the DoD Minerva Research Initiative and the National Science Foundation. Her book, Electing Peace: From Civil Conflict to Political Participation (Cambridge University Press 2017), won the Charles H. Levine Memorial Book Prize. She worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory during college and the RAND Corporation afterward. She received her Ph.D. in political science from Stanford University and her A.B. magna cum laude from Harvard University.
