I attended EITM fairly early in my career (shortly after I finished my second year in the Ph.D program). The project I presented there ended up being the backbone of my dissertation, and since then I’ve expanded my research interests to include the political economy of confict in addition to international trade. I generally use formal theory in my work, and my experiences at EITM helped shape how I think about the modeling enterprise in general, so I’d say it had a lot of influence over how my research agenda has taken shape.
