Justin K. Canfil is a Ph.D. Candidate at Columbia University specializing in the politics of international law and emerging technologies. He is currently a research fellow with the Cyber Project at Harvard University’s Belfer Center. Drawing on extensive fieldwork, formally-motivated experiments, and original data, his research asks why some new technologies are more legally controversial than others, and explains how states navigate these challenges in times of rapid change. His dissertation work on this theme has been supported by a U.S. Fulbright Scholarship to China, the Department of State (Title VIII), the Department of Education (FLAS), and the National Science Foundation.
